Its time for another Double Feature Suggestion. This time we’ll be looking at the classic western genre through the lens of two fantastic films known as Bone Tomahawk and Tombstone. Both of which star the legendary Kurt Russell, who starred in a recent western called The Hateful Eight, a somewhat divisive Tarantino film that I happen to love. So let’s just get into it…
Bone Tomahawk, directed by S. Craig Kohler, released in 2015 and starring Kurt Russell, Patrick “Night Owl-My son astral projects” Wilson, and Mathew Fox who plays what is in my opinion his best film role considering his second best film role is a PG-13 serial killer in a Tyler Perry movie. Its a movie stuffed with all the classic western tropes like twirly mustaches and cavemen cannibals. Its a movie that breathes life into the western genre while surprising you with some brutal new twists. Rest assured you will remember Bone Tomahawk regardless if you like it or not. But if you like Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, or Eli Roth, gather the family round and take a seat because you’ll be witnessing one of the greatest things to ever grace the screen…and thats Kurt Russell’s stache.
Then of course we have Tombstone. Directed by a couple of dudes in 1993, its about Wyatt Earp and his buds throwing down in the town of Tombstone. Its a film that many people hold dear in their hearts. But none of that matters, what matters is Kurt Russell’s stache, which is obviously awesome, and of course Val Kilmer. Kilmer portrays one of the best characters of his career as the quick witted and slick tongued always drunk and always sweaty anti-hero known as Doc Holiday. Tombstone also has an amazing cast, its got Bill Paxton, Sam Elliot, Powers Boothe, Michael Beihn, Thomas Hayden Church, Stephen Lang, and even Billy Zane. Though its important to note that what truly matters is Russell’s stache and Kilmer’s sweatiness. They are what elevate this western into an classic American film.
So if you’re looking to burn an afternoon or night on the couch, sit back relax and take in our Double Feature Suggestion for Bone Tomahawk and Tombstone, you won’t be disappointed.
